![]() Preparing textures for Anark Studio Preparing bitmap textures for your Cinema 4D models couldn't be any easier than with Maxon's own BodyPaint 3D. But BodyPaint isn't just for Cinema 4D users; it's also integrated into the workflow of several different 3D applications. This week we'll take a look at how you can use BodyPaint 3D in conjunction with one such program, the new Anark Studio 3 from Anark Corp. There are really only three steps to get you on your way. ![]() Cinematics Director for "Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle Earth" Part One of a four-part series Nestled near the beach, barely a stone's throw from Hollywood, the video game mogul Electronic Arts has refashioned the way LA thinks about video game studios. Consistently beating out Hollywood profit margins and setting trends in the biz, the game industry is a dominating force. In a land of corporate and Hollywood giants, EA reigns supreme. Here, the people who brought us “Command and Conquer: Generals” are hard at work on “Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle Earth,” a real-time strategy game based on the popular movie trilogy. Here, Joe Harkins interviews Richard Taylor, cinematics director at EA, in Part One of a four-part series on Electronic Arts. ![]() Reinforces EA's commitment to nurturing independent game development studios Announced a worldwide publishing agreement with celebrated game designer Chris Taylor of Gas Powered Games. The two companies have partnered to create a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game for the PC. The new title is slated for release in 2006. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Will consumers buy into the concept? In a market that is controlled by two of the largest tech conglomerates on the planet in Sony and Microsoft, one has to wonder why a relatively unknown operation would want to venture into this arena? There’s no way they’re going to beat the two top dogs on research, development as well as marketing muscle. So why do other companies even bother? ![]() 2003 Sales of Online-Capable Console Games Exceed $1 Billion The NPD Group, U.S. retail sales of online-capable console video games exceeded $1 billion in 2003, a 167 percent increase over 2002. The number of units sold in 2003 exceeded 23 million, a 182 percent increase over the previous year.
